Each week we are speaking to our 2019 Champions and ask them some all important questions to see what makes them tick.
Next up is 2019 Honda Cadet Champion β Mitchell Gibbons
How did you get started in the sport?
We were looking for activities during the summer holiday sand found Sandown Daytona karting. I gave it a go and loved it!
What was the highlight of your title winning year?
My win at the first weekend of the British Championship at PFi. I put in a great last lap, made a move around the outside in the last few corners to take the win. The win set me up for the season.
What was your low point last season?
When the Ambition Team van was stolen the night before the British Championships at Rissington. Team Principal Paul Janes, Project One and the karting community were amazing and so supportive and managed to get a kart for me to race. I came 5th that weekend. I was really disappointed with the result and thought the Championship might be out of reach. However, that set back made me more determined to succeed.
Why do you enjoy competing in Karting and the BKC?
No sport comes close to the adrenalin of karting. The British Kart Championship is the pinnacle of UK Karting where you get to race against the best out there.
Whatβs your favourite circuit?
Shenington. Last year at Shenington I won the E Plate, SP Plate, both rounds of the British Championship, Summer and Winter Club Championships & gained Driver of the Year. It was a perfect season at this Circuit.
Who has been your toughest rival?
No particular Driver, I respect all drivers. I never underestimate anyone in a race as we all want to win.
When we do get underway, what are your hopes for the new season?
This year is going to be a development year especially jumping up two classes and being the youngest on the grid. I am going to work hard and learn as much as possible this year and hopefully next year climb the ranks in the British Championships.
Due to the delayed start to the season what are you planning on doing with this unexpected time off from racing?
School Work, helping with DIY, Keeping fit and of course gaming!

We wish Mitchell and everyone in the BKC well. Stay safe and look after each other. We will be back in action before you know it #StayOnTrack
