Mini Max contender Arun Phull was awarded the inaugural Wera Tools Driver of the Day Award for the opening meeting of the 2021 Wera Tools British Kart Championships at Clay Pigeon Raceway (21-23 May).

Phull was nominated by the panel of judges along with five other drivers thanks to their on-track performance, sporting act or overcoming adversity. Each driver was in line to scoop a special Wera Tools Trophy and a comprehensive Wera Tools kart toolkit worth £2500, whilst Motorsport UK will supplement the prize with a free test day at a BKC venue of their choice in 2021 or 2022.

The nominees were:

DAN TATE – ROTAX 177

OWEN NEAVE – CADET HONDA

ARUN PHULL – MINI MAX

RHYS HUNTER – SENIOR MAX

AUSTIN NEWSTEAD – BAMBINO

LUIS GARDNER – JUNIOR MAX

The 13-year-old Mini Max pilot received the nomination thanks to his performance in the final, charging from 11th on the grid to 4th, but also thanks to overcoming a challenging few days before the meeting, loosing his BKC mechanic and being forced to change teams at the last minute.

When told of his award, Phull said “It’s great to be recognised after a very tough few weeks. I am really pleased and thankful to everyone who voted for me and who have supported me in all the years I’ve been karting. Special thanks to my Mum, Dad and Sister.”

The award continues at the opening round of the IAME, KZ2 and TKM classes this weekend at Shenington (28-30 May).
