It’s been over six weeks since the Rotax and Honda classes were in action on the Motorsport UK Wera Tools British Kart Championship tour and this weekend [22-24 July] the series contenders will blast back into action at the Warden Law Circuit in Sunderland.

Despite being halfway through the season, the Rotax Mini Max, Junior and Senior classes as well as the Honda Cadet karters have only completed two rounds so far, with PF International kicking off the championship and the Larkhall Circuit in Scotland hosting the second encounter of 2022.

Also joining the weekend will be the 2022 Micro Max JAG Micro Max Trophy, where the winner will be taking home a brand new engine and a free entry into the ROTAX Challenge Grand Final qualifier events.

Now, the series heads to the North East for the tight and technical track of Warden as the eager racers get back up to speed and resume their fight for supremacy in Britain’s premier karting series.

Friday hosts Practice, with Saturday seeing the Timed Qualifying Simulation, Timed Qualifying and the Heats take place. Sunday houses the Pre-Final and all-important Finals.

Spectators are welcome to watch the action trackside, but for those unable to attend in person, series broadcast partners Alpha Live will once again be providing unrivalled coverage from the weekend with paddock news and race day coverage on the dedicated BKC Live page [HERE].

MINI MAX

So far in 2022 it’s arguably been the Scott Marsh [DHR] show in Mini Max with all but a PFi Pre-Final maximum score to his name over the two meetings this season.

He has never been outside of the podium places in any points scoring opportunity and holds a 22-point lead over nearest rival and Honda Cadet graduate Noah Wolfe.

Wolfe [Synergy Racing Developments] has done his best to live with Marsh, as has Sebastian Minns [KR-Sport] but has had to play second fiddle so far but the gap between the duo is just 15 and could well see a shift around with three lots of 65 points available this weekend.

Just four points adrift of Minns, Harry Bartle [Croc Promotion] and Finn Leslie [Sam Pollit Racing] tie for fourth in the standings and equally means the fight for a positive points haul is likely to be a gutsy one.

JUNIOR ROTAX

A sensational 57 Junior Rotax drivers will be lining up to do battle at Warden and it would be a brave bet to put your money down on what the podium is likely to look like. The standings have seen a shuffle around since the opening round with Brandon Carr [KR-Sport] heading into the weekend at the top, but with only a 12-point buffer to Harry Burgoyne Jnr [Strawberry Racing].

Burgoyne Jnr had less than a favourable weekend at Larkhall which shunted him down the order as Macauley Bishop [DHR] who is also contesting Junior X30 this season sealed the Finals win. Skipping the opening round means he is well down the order and its teammate Harry Linden who is third, but only two points separate him from Strawberry Racing’s Vinnie Phillips.

Charlie Hart [Sam Pollitt Racing] sits fifth after a strong Heats and PreFinal result last time out in Scotland.

SENIOR ROTAX

Callum Bradshaw [Strawberry Racing] is another driver in Rotax to take a top three result at every point scoring opportunity this season which has netted him a comfortable Senior’s lead of 30 points.

But chasing him down will be DHR’s Kai Hunter who will feel most certainly at home as the family owns the circuit. It will arguably be tough ask to beat the number two plat on home turf but Bradshaw is on form and Guy Cunnington [Strawberry Racing] is hot on his heels just two points behind Hunter.

A strong start to the season for Sean Butcher [KR-Sport] unravelled at Larkhall with a poor haul of points which put him out of the top three early on. But a chargeback at Warden could see him well and truly back in the mix; he sits fourth in the standings just two ahead of Mattie Hingeley [Ultimate-R].

With 41 drivers bidding for the top spot, expect the action to be as impressive as ever.

HONDA CADET

The closely matched Honda Cadet category emphasises strategy and race craft. It would be the Synergy Racing Developments driver Cole Denholm that clearly got the memo at the start of the season, heading to Warden with a sensational unblemished record – maximum scores on every possible opportunity.

It’s an impressive start, but with such close racing the season offers plenty of opportunity for change and Albert Friend [SFR Motorsport] will be hunting Denholm down, albeit 25 points behind in second spot. He is in the Synergy sandwich as Jarrett Clark sits third.

Ambition Motorsport is represented towards the top of the leaderboard by Kenzo Craigie whilst Finlay Lines enjoys his debut BKC Cadet season in equal fifth with Noah Barham heading into round three.
