This weekend, 16th – 18th September 2020, the British Kart Championship is heading to Clay Pigeon Raceway for the seventh event of the year and the penultimate round of the Rotax Championship.
Talented drivers from across the country will descend to the Dorchester-based track with hopes to gain those all-important championship points in the battle for the coveted British Kart Champion title.
The event will host five classes: Mini Max, Junior Rotax, Senior Rotax and Rotax 177. Also joining the roster is the guest class, Micro Max, where competitors will fight to earn themselves a place at the Grand Finals in Portimao next year.
In the Mini Max class, DHR driver Harry Linden will be returning to try and extend his championship lead of 15 points. Linden, who has performed outstandingly throughout the season so far, has a fight on his hands as the runners up in the championship, Steven Duncan and Finn Smith, will also be taking to the track this weekend to try and edge closer to that championship title.
With only three points separate current championship leader Mattie Hingley and second place Callum Voisin in the Junior Rotax class, this weekend looks likely to produce an unmissable racing experience. Adding to the excitement, championship leader Morgan Porter will also take on 40 other drivers in the Senior Rotax class to try and extend his lead of 13 points.
During the last round at Warden Law, it was the Rotax 177 class that provided the most entertainment to all the viewers across the live stream. The interchangeable weather during the final on Sunday saw most of the grid opt for wet tyres, except for Henry Ayers. Starting at the back of the grid, Ayers didn’t have time to change his tyres to wets when the rain started.
Choosing to stay on slicks, Ayers struggled to stay with the grid during the final. However, as the track started drying, Ayers’ tyre choice worked in his favour. He climbed through grid and gained considerable time back as the race continued. Ayers took the chequered flag and received a loud cheer from the other competitors and on-lookers in attendance. Joining Henry Ayers on the podium were Oliver Appleby and Matthew Easton.
With a current tie in the championship for the Rotax 177 title between Matthew Easton and Oliver Appleby, this weekend promises another electrifying encounter!
All the action will be live streamed on our Facebook Channel from 10:45am on Sunday.
